There’s something unique about Venice Beach. This iconic strip of the California coastline is a popular tourist attraction and sunny escape for its busy L.A. residents. The region’s laid-back yet luxe bohemian feel is the perfect antidote to the humdrum of city life. One place where this aesthetic is captured perfectly is the historic .

Designer Tricia Beanum of teamed up with and to completely transform the into a chic bohemian home. “I want a space to be as unpredictable and one-of-a-kind as its owner,” she said. “These have the breezy cool feel of the ocean and almost beg you inside for a glass of rosé and a great conversation.” Ahead, take the full tour through each impeccably styled room, and then shop the look exclusively on .

Designing with vintage can be challenging, especially when pairing different eras in the one space, but Beanum uses her gut instinct. “I fall in love with pieces and then build rooms around them, rather than setting sights on a theme and forcing the pieces to fit within that theme,” she said. “I don’t design around the space; I design around the pieces.”

With a heavy vintage aesthetic throughout the home, Beanum kept the rest of the home fairly neutral. “I love a warm color palette and really find it fun and fresh to experiment with bringing together warm tones, with pops and smatterings of color and contemporary art,” she said.

Each room in the house is bright and clean yet at once cozy and welcoming. Perfecting that balance isn’t as simple as it looks. “For this particular project the developers were clear that they didn’t want a typical beachy style,” she said. “They wanted to stay away from the too-often-overdone all white and wanted a cool, hip vibe. That’s exactly what was created. These boho sanctuaries call you in and make you want to stay.”

Whenever you approach the design of a space, Beanum says it’s important to stay true to your own personal style. “I don’t want to create a space that people have to feel precious about,” she explained. “Things are meant to be used, to be enjoyed, to be lived in. Design should mirror self. It shouldn’t be a reflection of trends, but of personal taste.” We completely concur.

Layering is key to the boho-chic look. “I love coupling a sisal with a fabulous vintage Moroccan rug layered over the top,” she said. “Don’t be afraid to take risks. Risks are the birthplace of style.”

While the home’s architecture has had a complete overhaul, Beanum ensured the interiors reflected the history but was also open to interpretation. “Your home should be a reflection of you,” she said. “Choose what moves you, and live surrounded by it.”
