What if approximately 30 seconds after opening your eyes each morning, you'd be able to enjoy a fresh-brewed cup of coffee or tea sitting on your bedside table? Such was the utopian vision of London-based designer Josh Renouf, whose alarm clock–coffee maker hybrid invention has just become a reality. Dubbed The Barisieur, Renouf's brainchild was first launched on fundraising site Indiegogo this past May and just reached its end goal of $500,000 at the end of July.
Renouf's research leading up to the conceptualization of The Barisieur was "inspired by the psychology behind sleep and relaxation," according to his Indiegogo video. "I learned that adopting a nightly routine could encourage a more restful night's sleep, but that gently stimulating one's senses could lead to a better awakening." It's safe to say that his resulting invention accomplishes both of those goals. After first prepping the machine the night before (not dissimilar to how you'd prep for a normal cup of coffee), users then select whether they'd like their coffee or tea to start brewing before, during, or after their morning alarm sounds. Before you know it, you're waking up to the intoxicating aroma of a fresh cup of coffee sitting right next to your bed.
