One perk of flying—assuming you've snagged the window seat, that is—is the view from that tiny, oval oracle of a window that grants you some of the most insane views you could possibly imagine. Instead of leaving you to daydream about what exactly lies below those clouds you see, Shane Loeffler wants to enlighten you and your Instagram captions with his new app Flyover Country.
Put simply, tells you exactly what and where you're flying over—beyond "That looks like a mountain range!" Loeffler, a former geology student at the University of Minnesota at Duluth, was inspired to create Flyover Country while on a long flight home to Minnesota from the UK. He then received a grant to transform his vision into app reality—while still in college, no less.
While the app reportedly still has a few kinks to work out, according to a review from Vacation + Leisure's Melanie Lieberman, it's still an interesting tool that's both entertaining and educational. "Best of all? The app uses cached articles, maps, and data to pinpoint details about your unique route," writes Lieberman. "In other words, you don't need to purchase expensive in-flight WiFi to use Flyover Country." We can get on board with that.
