If you look carefully, you can spot Gosford Castle, a sprawling property located in the Northern Ireland village of Markethill, in season three of the HBO series , starring newlyweds Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie. The literal castle was recently for £500,000 (around $650,00), and one of its luxe apartments could be yours.
It was built in the mid-1800s and designed in Norman Revival style by Thomas Hopper, a London architect. The castle has a long and rich history—it was commandeered by troops during World War II before its owners, the Achesons, sold the property to the Ministry of Agriculture and established Northern Ireland's first conservation forest. Although it was again used by the military, it became a hotel in 1983.
Restorations on the castle began in 2006 with plans to create 23 luxury residences. Artisans and craftsmen have since revamped the historic property while maintaining its original character, specifically its existing staircases, vaulted ceilings, and color schemes. Now, six apartments with monikers like The Inner Bailey, The Old Keep, and The Round Tower, are available for purchase. Curious what it would be like to live in an actual castle?
