Lauren Conrad's Exclusive Office Makeover

When fashion designer, author, and former reality star Lauren Conrad decided it was time to make over the offices of her fashion label , she turned to Domaine to help facilitate the process. Lauren wanted the interiors of her offices to mimic the look and feel of her youthful label, only more streamlined and functional."We had to get creative with where we organized everything because we have so many samples and paperwork coming in and out," she says. "We had to figure out a way to fit it all in there without it looking cluttered."

movingSince the Paper Crown's office is a rental, the Domaine team, including our editor-at-large Estee Stanley and editorial director Mat Sanders, sought temporary solutions to enhance the office's creative mojo. In the drafting room (a collaborative space), a floor-to-ceiling pinboard was constructed of particleboard, soundproofing cork, and Ikea ticking strip fabric, then hung from the wall with simple, sturdy hooks. Timeless West Elm , white , and glossy white CB2 were selected with longevity in mind. "Depending on the new space, I think they're all pretty versatile pieces," says Lauren. "The thing about when you move into a new space is that some stuff works and some doesn't. But I hope it does! I like it all!"

A primary task of the redesign was to change the functionality of Paper Crown's three rooms so that they better met the needs of the business. In reimagining the workspace with a more conversational floor plan, Lauren's team now sits together, rather than in separate rooms. "Now that we're all in the same office, it's nice that we're not shouting from room to room," says Lauren. Complete with a beautiful , a feminine Louis XIV , and layers of overlapping , the showroom of the Paper Crown office makes a more distinguished first impression." We brought sales in-house recently, and we're taking a lot more meetings in the space," says Lauren, "so what's really great is that we were able to dress up the space a bit, elevate it, and kind of make it a bit more of a professional setting."

Despite all the "newness," like the antique upholstered armchair from , the team was able to stay within budget by bargain-hunting on Craigslist and repurposing existing pieces, like Lauren's red velvet desk chair, vintage upholstered bench, and gilded . Photographs from lookbooks and personal photos were pulled together and framed in inexpensive white Ikea , bringing the brand voice to life on a gallery wall. What used to be Lauren's desk -- a farmhouse kitchen table she scored for $100 at a thrift store, painted white, and topped with glass when she was first starting the business -- was given a makeover of its own and transformed into a tall drafting table with a higher set of legs. "I love that they used the same table," says Lauren. "On the day we moved into the office, I was painting and I painted a big heart on the bottom of it. It's still there, and I am so excited because it represents the beginning of our business."
